About Our Practice in Calgary

Dr. Regan Nowlan, BSc, OD, was born and raised in Calgary. She attended the University of Calgary, earning a Bachelor of Science with honours in 1997. Having completed her honours thesis on “Patient Satisfaction Following Refractive Surgery” in conjunction with the Gimbel Eye Centre, she decided to pursue her passion for vision by completing her Doctor of Optometry.

Dr. Nowlan attended the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, graduating in 2002. After completing many externships in the Greater Chicago area, including at the North Chicago VA and the University of Chicago Hospital, she ultimately returned to Calgary to practice where she grew up. She also attended Bowness High School and is proud to now be back practicing here in her old neighbourhood!

Dr. Nowlan provides full-scope optometric care to patients of all ages and is especially focused on ocular disease and dry eye care. Working side by side with ophthalmologists Dr. Ellen Anderson-Penno and Dr. Ugo Dodd allows for amazing patient care and access to ophthalmology if urgent care is needed. Dr. Anderson-Penno also provides refractive surgery, which allows for in-office referrals and refractive surgery assessments.

In her time off, Dr. Nowlan enjoys running, hiking, biking, and camping with her husband and 2 boys. She is a member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists.

Dr. Nana Boadi, BSc, OD, was born in Alberta and raised in northwest Calgary. She went on to complete her Bachelor of Science with a specialization in neuroscience at the University of Alberta. She then went on to do specialized training in orthoptics (the study of eye muscle disorders) at the UBC/Vancouver General Hospital in beautiful Vancouver. She enjoyed the work she did, working with kids with visual disorders as an orthoptist, which ultimately led her to pursue further education, obtaining her Doctor of Optometry from Pacific University and graduating with honours. Her externship sites during her training included a Veteran Affairs hospital in Tacoma, WA, seeing adult patients with advanced ocular disease and working and learning alongside general and pediatric ophthalmologists at 2 busy private practices in Edmonton, where she continued to further her skill set.

In recent years, she has been fortunate to be the first optometrist to work in a children’s hospital in Alberta, where she diagnoses, manages, and treats children who require specialized care. In addition to working at the Children’s Hospital, she has also been privileged to work alongside Dr. Ellen Anderson-Penno at Twenty20 Eyecare, seeing both pediatric and adult patients for their eye care needs. She is passionate about adult and pediatric eye care. She has worked at both Twenty20 Eyecare and the Alberta Children’s Hospital as an optometrist for the past 12 years.
During her optometric studies, Dr. Boadi was fortunate to be introduced to eye care missions and community work. She was privileged to go on local eye missions and an eye mission in Guatemala to provide care for those in need. She organized the first-ever Pacific University eye care mission to Ghana, West Africa, to provide eye care to those most in need.

She continues to volunteer her time in Calgary, mentoring ophthalmology residents and medical and optometric students and giving talks to children at schools to educate them about vision.
In her spare time, she enjoys her busy “soccer mom” life with her husband and 4 children here in Calgary.

Dr. Vaneet Kaloti was born and raised in Unity, Saskatchewan, and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Saskatchewan. She graduated with honours from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2001 and has been practicing in Calgary for the past 20 years.

Dr. Kaloti is passionate about her work and enjoys seeing patients of all ages, from children to seniors. She is dedicated to providing her patients with comprehensive vision care, using the many resources available in Calgary and the surrounding area. She is excited to be a part of the team at Twenty20 Eyecare and co-managing patient care with the ophthalmologists and optometrists in the practice. She has years of experience fitting contact lenses for all age groups, and especially fitting children in contact lenses for sports.

Dr. Kaloti is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists and the Alberta Association of Optometrists. She continues her education by attending conferences locally and across the US. Outside of work, she and her husband enjoy running, skiing, and watching their 2 sons play hockey.
